Seneca’s power is not in his “performance” as much as it is in his humanity. He is a powerful human being. His compassion for people is extraordinary. His ambition is humble and endless, filled with mistakes and honesty. His leadership is firm and patient. He is a champion for people who are “on their way.”As a writer, Seneca speaks the language that we all understand. We laugh with him when he’s being funny and sit in fearful silence when he reads us back the stories of our lives. He’s transcended being a poet. He’s an orator. A leadership griot. He has learned people in a frightening way because he listens to us and recites back who we are. In it, we hear who we want to be. There is no performance in that. It’s poetry; motivating and enlightening.
